    Speed Limit

    Speed in Tobago is measured in kilometers per hour (kph). Unless otherwise posted, the speed limit in Tobago is 50km/hr


    The Police

    If you are stopped while driving in Tobago, remain seated in your car, locate your driver's permit and insurance and await further instructions from the police officer. Always be polite and well mannered. Never try to bribe a police officer. Attempting to bribe a police officer is a serious offense in Tobago.


    Seat Belts

    Seat belt use is mandatory for all passengers travelling in Tobago, if you are caught driving without your seat belt, you may be fined as much as $1,000.00 (TTD)


    Mobile Phones

    In Tobago it is illegal to use mobile phones while driving. If you are caught breaking this law, you may be fined or face imprisonment.​​


    Drinking and Driving

    Driving while impaired is a criminal offence in Tobago. The legal blood alcohol content level is 0.08%. Random check points are set up throughout the island to monitor drivers blood alcohol content. Failure to comply with an officer's brethalyzer request may result in heavy fines or imprisonment. If you fail a breathelyzer test you could be fined up to $12,000.00 (TTD) or face imprisonment.



    Animal Crossing

    Signs alerting drivers to beware of certain wildlife that roam nearby roadways may be seen. Please pay special attention to these signs, hitting an animal may cause great damage to you and others, it would also cause damage to your vehicle.
